Multilingual term checks for XLIFF files

About the Feature

With the multilingual term check for XLIFF, you can make sure at a glance that both the source text and the translation use your terminology correctly. You'll be working directly in an XLIFF file from your translation project.

In the bilingual editor, you can edit the source text and the target text in segments. You can then import your corrected version into your translation memory or your website. This allows you to quickly and easily adapt text in two languages to your corporate language.

Perform a Multilingual Term Check using XLIFF

1. Open the Lexeri web app.
2. In the Term Checks main menu, click Start Term Check.

The Term Check window opens. On the left, you'll see the text editor for term checks with free-form text entry, and on the right, the document upload window. 

3. Upload the XLIFF file you want to check using Select File or by dragging & dropping it.
4. Select the term database against which the content should be checked, as well as the source and target languages included in the XLIFF file. 
5. Optional: Use the plus icon to narrow down the results based on additional attributes from the term database.
6. Click Start Term Check.

• The bilingual editor opens, and the analysis of the source text and target text begins.
• Once the term check is complete, you'll see a two-column view in which all terms found are highlighted in color in both the source and target languages. The colors correspond to the usage status in Lexeri.

Edit the List of Term Matches and the View

Sort the List of Term Matches

Just as in the single-language Term Check, you can sort the list of term matches by various criteria. Sorting can be done separately for both languages in the XLIFF file. This will help you quickly get an overview of the various term matches, their characteristics, and where they appear in the text.

1. By default, you'll see the results for the target language first. Switch the language if necessary.

2. Sort the term matches as needed: alphabetically, by usage status, or by the order in which they appear in the text. To do this, click the list icon to the right of the language selection. A check mark indicates the selected filter.
3. Preferred terms can be hidden from the results list.

Filter in the Bilingual Editor

You can filter the segments based on the following criteria:

• Source text containing a prohibited term
• Target text containing a prohibited term
• Target text with a missing term

Procedure:

1. Click the filter icon in the upper-right corner of the editor and select the filter you want.

You will now see only the segments to which the selected criterion applies. The results list also now shows only the results from the filtered segments.

2. In the filter, select All Segments to return to the unfiltered overview of your segments.

Show Segments with a Specific Term Match

Using the list of results, you can view all the places in your text that contain a specific term. This filter can be applied to both the source language and the target language.

1. Select the language of the term matches.
2. Click on a term in the results list to display only the segments that contain that exact term match. Additional information about this term entry is displayed in the results list.

3. Click the term match again to clear the filter and display all segments again.

Show and Hide Match Highlighting

In the bilingual editor, all term matches are highlighted in color in both the source and target languages. The colors correspond to the usage status in Lexeri.

You can turn off this match highlighting in both languages. This can be helpful if you want to focus specifically on the content of your text.

1. To do this, click the three dots next to the language for which you want to hide the highlighting.
2. To reactivate the highlighting, click on the three dots again.

Correct the Segments and Complete the Term Check

1. Click on the text in the segment you want to edit. You can edit both the source text and the translation this way.
2. Edit the text and click Save to apply the change, or Cancel to discard it.
3. By refreshing the page in your browser, you can perform a term check on the updated version of the text.
4. Export your final XLIFF file using the Download button in the upper-right corner of the editor. You can now use the file in your intended application.
5. To exit the Term Check, close the window. This will take you to an overview of your most recent term checks.

6. Click on a the tile of a Term Check if you want to view it again or continue working on it.
