Term checking with Lexeri's Windows app

About the Feature

With the Lexeri Windows app, you can now easily check texts and files right within the program you're using, regardless of whether there is a Lexeri plug-in available for that program. Using a keyboard shortcut, you can check selected text directly and view the results in the Windows app's sidebar. In Windows Explorer, you can send entire documents to the term check via right-click.

The Windows app is an additional way to access Lexeri. The existing plug-ins and the Lexeri web app remain fully usable. The check itself continues to take place in the Lexeri web app, but is displayed in the sidebar.

System Requirements

• You are using Windows 10 or a newer version as your operating system.
• Microsoft Edge WebView2 is installed (included by default with Windows 11).
• You have been added as a user in Lexeri and have access to at least one term database.

Install the Lexeri Windows App

1. Download the installer from the Lexeri website or from the Lexeri web app: Lexeri website
2. Open the application file and run the installation as a Windows desktop application. You may need to have your system administrator perform the installation.
3. When you start the program for the first time, it is automatically added to the Windows startup list. Disable autostart if you do not want the app to open automatically when Windows starts. You can find this setting in Windows under Settings > Apps > Startup > Lexeri.
4. When the app starts, the tray icon appears and the sidebar opens with the home screen in the user's language.
5. Log in with your Lexeri credentials to perform term checks with the Windows app.

Configure Settings

You can configure the Lexeri Windows app settings via the tray icon in the Windows toolbar.

1. Right-click the Lexeri icon in the toolbar to open the context menu and access the settings options.

   

   • Run on Windows Startup determines whether the app starts automatically when Windows starts. The status shown here corresponds to the configuration set in Windows settings.
   • With the menu item Hotkey, you can specify which keyboard shortcut to use to send selected text to Lexeri for a term check. By default, the shortcut is set to Win+Shift+L.
   • Check for Updates... lets you quickly check whether your Lexeri Windows app is up to date and install an update if needed.
   • Click Exit to close the app. To run another term check via hotkey, you'll need to restart the app.

Perform a Term Check

Option 1: Check via Hotkey

When you are working on a text in almost any program, you can now easily send sections of it to term check, even if you don't have a Lexeri plug-in installed in that program. 

1. Make sure the Lexeri Windows app is running. You can tell by the tray icon.
2. Log in to the app with your Lexeri credentials if you haven't already logged in.
3. Select the text you want to check in your document and press Win+Shift+L on your keyboard.

   • The selected text is sent to Lexeri, the sidebar opens, and the first 190 characters of the text to be checked are displayed as a preview. 

     

4. In the sidebar, select the term database you want to check the text against, and the language of the text.
5. Click Check text to start the term check.
   • You will now see the results list directly in the sidebar, showing all term matches found in your selected text passage.
   • Use the arrows next to the term matches to open the details stored for the term in the term database, as usual, and see where it occurs in the text.

   • Click the information icon to the right of the term match to open the term entry in the term database in the Lexeri web app.

     

• Click the AI icon next to forbidden or approved terms to have Lexeri generate improvement suggestions that you can insert into your text via the clipboard. If you haven't enabled the AI features, make the changes manually in the target text.

  

6. To check another piece of text, select it, press Win+Shift+L on your keyboard, and click Check new text at the bottom of the sidebar.
7. Use the arrow at the top left of the sidebar to return to the sidebar's home page.

Option 2: Document Check from Windows Explorer

You can now send documents directly from Windows Explorer to term check without opening the file or launching the Lexeri Windows app. The results list is displayed directly in the Lexeri sidebar.

1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the file you want to check.

2. Right-click on the file to open the context menu and select Send to > Lexeri. 
   On Windows 11: Show more options > Send to > Lexeri.

   

   • The document is uploaded to Lexeri.

   • The sidebar and a pop-up window describing the process appear at the edge of the screen.

     

3. If you're logged out, the login screen opens in the sidebar. Sign in with your Lexeri credentials to run the term check.
4. Select which term database and language the document should be checked against. Apply filters as needed. 
5. Click Start Term Check to begin the analysis.
   • You'll now see the results list directly in the sidebar, showing all term matches found in the document.
   • Use the arrows next to the term matches to open the details for the term stored in the term database, and see where it occurs in the text.
   • Click the information icon to the right of the term match to open the term entry in the term database in the Lexeri web app.
6. Click the AI icon next to forbidden or approved terms to have Lexeri generate improvement suggestions that you can insert into your text via the clipboard. If you haven't enabled the AI features, make the changes manually in the target text.

Option 3: Document Check via Upload Function

Just as in the Lexeri web app, the Lexeri Windows app lets you upload files for checking. In the Windows app, you can upload PDF files as well as other compatible file formats for checking.

1. On the sidebar's home page, click the Check document button.

   

2. Use Choose File to browse to the file you want to check and load it into the app, or drag and drop it into the window.

   

3. Select the term database, the language of the file, and optionally any additional filters for the term check.
4. Click Start term check to begin the term check.
5. To upload another document for checking, click the Check again button below the results list to return to the upload window.
